The Prison Service carries out the tasks
regarding the execution of penalties of imprisonment and
temporary arrest on the basis of regulations specified in the
Executive Criminal Code.
The Prison Service is a uniformed and armed unit
which
maintains
political neutrality and is subordinated to the
Minister of Justice. It has its own organisational structure.
The basic tasks of the Prison Service include:

running
rehabilitation
activities
in relation to the persons sentenced to the
penalty of imprisonment, mostly by organising
work which enables the acquisition of
professional qualifications, teaching and cultural-educational
classes,

temporary arrest in a way that protects the
correct course of the penal proceedings,
-
ensuring the observance of
the
rights of
persons sentenced to the penalty of imprisonment
or those arrested temporarily, and in
particular
humanitarian conditions,
including the
respect of dignity, health and religious care,
-
protection of society from the perpetrators of
crimes, who are placed at penal institutions and
remand centres,
-
ensuring
order and security at penal institutions and
remand centres,
-
execution of arrests applied on the basis of other
regulations and legal help related to
international agreements.
